Grow Coconut purchased from market Process Explained :
Hey everyone, how you guys are.
Have you ever tried growing coconut?
If not, then you must try, as the process is simple and interesting too.
In this video along with growing Coconut, I will also tell you the planting process.
You can grow both types of coconut with a cover or without cover.
I will say, lazy gardeners, must go with one having cover.
And in case you want to grow quickly with a bit of care, go with peeled coconut.
The process of growing both of them is similar and easy.
Guys, I have a basket in my garden for harvesting rainwater over my plant shade.
We use that water for our plants after mixing seaweed or any other products.
That’s why water keeps on changing frequently.
And so, I use this bucket for growing coconuts.
The process is completely inspired by nature.
In nature mature coconut, fall in river or ponds.
It keeps on floating till the roots develop.
When the roots appear the coconut settles near the bank.
As I told you earlier, coconut without cover grows much quickly.
Coconut takes 1-4 months to root,
this completely depends upon the temperature at your location.
For growing coconut, just skip the winter months.
After any growth appears, do not keep the coconut in water.
Just place it in any of your pots, which needs watering every day.
It’s 10 days since I kept it in the pot.
I have removed the fibers so that you can observe the growth perfectly.
Now I will place it in a pot, where I have to keep it for later.
We just need to place it on the top of the soil, we need not cover it.
While placing the coconut, keep the roots downward.
Now you can clearly observe the root and shoot growth.
now pot it in this grow bag, keeping roots downward, and will fill potting mix.
Just cover the roots with soil.
Guys, I have added few ingredients to this soil, which we will discuss later in this video.
It’s been 25 days since I have planted it, and look at the root and shoot growth.
Now as winter is approaching, growth will slow down.
Guys here is a coconut plant grown from Coconut with cover.
When we grow covered coconut we need not put lots of effort.
Just place it in water and forget.
And yes, keep on changing water.
As stagnant water can lead to the growth of mosquitoes and fungus.
In case you don’t have any water collection bucket in your garden,
then just place covered coconut in any of your pots receiving water every day.
When you will spot root and shoot, plant it as I am going to tell you now.
The First & most important thing you need for planting is good soil.
2nd thing is vermicompost, as coconut is a heavy feeder plant.
3rd is Neem Khali, to avoid white ant & fungus attack.
4th ingredient is coco-chips.
In place of Coco-chips, you can use, coconut cover or cocopeat.
And in case you want to plant it in the pot, then you need a big pot at least 22-24 inches in diameter and depth.
I am going to discuss both plantings in a pot and in-ground.
Both are a bit different so pay attention.
First thing first, place a pebble on the drainage hole.
Then make a 1.5 to 2 inches layer of coco-chips.
Then make a 1 inches layer of Vermicompost.
Vermicompost is very important, as I told you earlier, Coconut is a heavy feeder plant.
Add soil over vermicompost.
Then mix Neem cake powder in the soil.
It is optional, you can skip this.
Neem cake is prepared while extracting neem oil from neem seeds.
in place of this, you can use powdered neem seeds.
Now, just plant the seed-grown coconut.
While planting, do not cover the crown ( shoot initiation point ) with soil.
Water well after planting.
Keep the plant outdoor in full sun.
Now, let’s talk about planting in the ground.
While planting on the ground, choose a location that is not shaded by another tree.
Make a pit of diameter 1.5 – 2 feet and depth 1 – 1.5 feet.
The first layer will be coco-chips or coconut cover.
Add 300-400 grams of salt.
We do not use salt while planting in a pot, as high salt concentration may damage roots.
In a pot, we use salt after the plant establishes, which we will discuss in the care tips video.
Add vermicompost or any compost available to you.
Adding neem seed powder/neem cake powder.
Add at-least 1.5 – 2 kg compost.
After mixing everything well plant the coconut in the center.
Do not completely fill the pit, as we have to add compost and salt water.
Guys, there is an update for you.
It’s a pineapple plant grown from the crown, and it is bearing fruit.
